Obituary for Stephen Hart Towery

Stephen Hart Towery, age 72, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, after a long battle with illness.

Steve was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on December 28, 1948, the first-born child of Robert H. and Barbara J. (Hart) Towery, and was raised in Ann Arbor with his sister, Harriet. After graduating from Pioneer High School, Steve enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home to Michigan from war, Steve began attending classes at Michigan State University and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor of science degree assisted by the GI Bill. Steve had a successful and fulfilling career in security systems and most recently worked at Wayne-Westland Community Schools.

In 2000, Steve met Camilla J. (Leeny) Landry at a local event in Washtenaw County. After 16 years of love and companionship, they married on June 26, 2016. The two enjoyed several wonderful adventures together -- most memorable were cruise trips exploring the rugged terrain of Alaska and the beauty of the Caribbean islands.

He was a proud veteran and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, often volunteering for their honor guard. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed playing the piano, working with computers and being outdoors, especially while hunting or fishing. He had a keen eye for photography, often while exploring nature. Steve enjoyed the photography classes he took at Michigan State University and, most recently, at Washtenaw Community College.

Steve is survived by his wife, Camilla J. Landry; his children, Heather (Debi) Towery, Faune (Luis) Towery, and Trevor (Val) Towery; his grandchildren, Alora, Tristan, Troy, Tyler and Brooke; and his sister, Harriet (Brent) Roller.
