Obituary for Susan Elaine Parker

Parker, Susan Elaine, 5/16/1951 - 1/22/2022, Ann Arbor, Michigan

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Susan Elaine Parker, age 70, our most beloved grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend left this world suddenly on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She passed peacefully in her sleep while at home.

Sue was born on May 16, 1951 to the late Lloyd and Maybelle Comann in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She graduated from Romeo High School in 1969. After high school, she worked as a secretary at the University of Michigan School of Engineering Dean’s Office. For many years, Sue was a homemaker and mother to two daughters. Concurrently, she co-owned the world renowned and award-winning family business, Parker People Dolls & Bears. She later retired from a career in medical records.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Sue. She had a life-long love affair with anything chocolate, the color purple, monkeys and cats. She was an avid doll and vintage toy collector. Sue loved thrift store hunting, a frequent family adventure to find hidden treasures (that would later wind up back at the thrift store again). She was always the first person to tell you any news, including what’s going on in the world (and what the neighbors were up to earlier). She had an exceptional talent for ensuring every child she came across was happy, well cared for and loved. She had a great sense of humor with a knack for unexpected zingers. Her pleasant and contagious personality made her friends everywhere she went. Sue was loving, kind, funny, and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

During her final days, she spent the majority of her time relaxing with her family and helping care for her 2 year old grandson. Maddox was her world.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Thomas, and daughter Kelli. Sue is survived by her former husband James, their daughter Kristen, son-in-law Shawn, grandson Maddox, sister Jennifer, brother-in-law Phillip, and niece Hayley.

The family has followed her wishes for a non-ceremonial cremation.
