Obituary for Tim Green

Timothy “Tim” Avery Green passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Michele, on March 28, 2021. At the age of 58, Tim now rests after a courageous twenty-one year battle with brain cancer.

Tim was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 6, 1963 to parents Charles and Sylvia Green. Born three months premature, Tim was a true miracle baby. At three years of age, Tim’s family moved to Mexico City, Mexico, where Tim enjoyed a childhood of adventurous mischief. Living in Mexico helped Tim develop a deep love for the people of Mexico, as well as those in need of spiritual renewal.

After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1985, Tim went on to study law at Wayne State School of Law. Following his graduation, Tim began work at Ford Motor Company where he had an illustrious career as an environmental lawyer.

In 1982, Tim met his wife Michele. In January 1989 they began a long distance relationship while Michele lived and worked in England, then married on December 29, 1990 in Farnham, England. Tim and Michele adopted their two daughters, Emmanuelle and Dominique, in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In 2017, due to declining health, Tim took advantage of an early retirement package from Ford in order to enjoy family life and pursue his passion for missionary work.

On March 17, 2000 Tim experienced his first cancer related symptoms. He was admitted to the hospital shortly after. On March 21, 2000 he was diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma-Astrocytoma brain tumor. The doctors originally gave him a six-month prognosis, then later predicted 3-5 years with treatment. Despite this terminal diagnosis, Tim never stopped living his life to the fullest. Though he often suffered due to treatment, he was miraculously blessed with 20 relatively symptomless years. By the end, Tim had endured 67 rounds of chemotherapy and two lifetimes of radiation.

Tim was a devoted father, loving husband, and passionate missionary. He was known for his sense of humor, gentle kindness, and contagious joy. His lifelong mission was to guide others towards a loving encounter with Our Lord. In pursuit of this mission, Tim gave those around him the greatest gift he could imagine: time well spent. Whether sharing a donut from Dom’s bakery, or laughing over a glass of red wine, Tim actively sought out ways to foster genuine connection. He possessed the unique ability to filter out the world and focus his undivided attention on the person in front of him. This love will be missed.

Tim is survived by his wife, Michele; his daughters, Emmanuelle and Dominique; his mother, Sylvia; and his three siblings, Catherine (Martin) Huebner, Sean (Eliza) Green, and Charles (Elizabeth) Green. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; his father-in-law, Guy Wright; and his five unborn children.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 3-5pm & 6:30-8:30pm and Friday, April 9, 2021 from 11am-12:30pm before the Funeral Mass at 1pm in celebration of Tim’s life at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4000 Ave Maria Dr., Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105.
