Obituary for Vernée (Oltman) Stevenson

Vernée (Oltman) Stevenson, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Vernée was born in Minneapolis and graduated from North High School. She went on to graduate from the Northwestern School of Nursing and earned a BS in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota.

She worked as an intensive care nurse at Northwestern Hospital and was a faculty member at St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She also held nursing positions at St. Olaf College, Winona State University and served as a nurse recruiter for the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Vernée had many passions, including the study of Objectivism and the philosophy of Ayn Rand, conservative politics, gardening, physical fitness, love for her many pets and spending time with her husband Mike at their cottage on Lake Huron. She was a devoted mother, wife, and a loyal and thoughtful friend. Throughout her life, she consistently helped friends and family during times of need.

Vernée is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael Stevenson; daughter, Andrea Stevenson; son, Scott (Katherine) Stevenson; granddaughter, Molly Stevenson; and sister, Charlotte Vick. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur F. and Verona Hanson Oltman.
