Obituary for Virginia "Ginny" Hartog

Hartog, Virginia “Ginny” Ann – 12/15/28 to 1/2/2020 Ann Arbor, MI

Ginny passed away unexpectedly on Jan 2nd. Born in Bismarck, ND to A.L. Watt and Vyvien Henne Watt, she graduated from Mandan, ND High School in 1946. She lived in several US cities during her earlier years then settled in Ann Arbor in the late 1950s where she began her 30+ year career at the VA Hospital. Ginny started at the hospital as a Dental Assistant, then moved to Research Science as a Laboratory Technologist. Loving to learn and read, she attended Eastern Michigan University. Upon retirement from the VA 27 years ago, she began a new career she enjoyed more than anything she had ever done, as a Volunteer at Lawton Elementary School reading to and assisting children with their reading skills. She was still an active volunteer and loved the children dearly. Just last year the school held a celebration for her 90th birthday and 25+ years of volunteer service.

Ginny is survived by her sister, Marion Boyle of West Salem, WI, nephews Chris Boyle (Laura), Mark Watt (Ann), nieces Elizabeth (Randy) Houston, and Sarah Watt-Ercolani. She was also loved by 9 great nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother John A. Watt, and nephew John B Watt.
