Obituary for Winifred Stoddard (Withers) Schweiger

Winifred Stoddard "Winnie" Schweiger passed away on January 10, 2022 in Ann Arbor Michigan.

Winnie was born October 29, 1944 in Wyandotte Michigan to Winifred L. and Harry J. Withers. She married her beloved husband, John L. Schweiger, on June 27 1987 and he survives. She is also survived by her devoted sisters, Jeanne (Joseph) Roach, Anne (Sue McMahon) Withers, Mary Beth (Don) Callow and Barb Withers; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Leah Whiteman and Ben Whiteman. Winnie is also survived by seven nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry J. and Winifred L. Withers, and her sister, Deborah Withers.

Winnie was a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Nursing. She was a lieutenant commander in the US Navy from 1967 to 1976, a Vietnam War era veteran who served her country with distinction. Winnie completed her certificate in anesthesia at George Washington University and later completed a Master's in Nursing Education at Wayne State University. As a CRNA at Oakwood Hospital for many years, she reached the pinnacle of her career as Chief CRNA at the University of Michigan Medical Center, retiring after more than 20 years of distinguished service. Winnie was an incredibly talented nurse and a respected colleague and mentor to many.

Winnie was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for many years. Along with her family, Winnie's Catholic faith was of tremendous importance to her. Winnie taught catechism for many years and happily sang in a number of church choirs through the years.

Winnie nurtured many loves and hobbies through the years, including golf, knitting, piano, gardening, home improvement, reading, cooking, singing, movies, decorating for holidays, rescuing cats and spending time with her beloved family. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her grandchildren, Leah (21) and Ben (18). She happily devoted countless hours to them - visiting, reading, playing, watching their games and plays, dressing up, singing, and doting on them joyously and endlessly. Her love for them was boundless and theirs for her the same.
