Obituary for Włodzimierz "Woody" Walasek

On the morning of January 17th, 2023, Włodzimierz (Włodek) Walasek, also known as “Woody,” passed away with his family by his side at 69 of a cardiac event. Włodek was born on February 22, 1953, in Grójec, Poland. Though he has lived in many places, for the past 20 years, Pittsfield Township, Michigan, has been home.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda Walasek; daughter, Marta Watson (Eric) and grandchildren, Izabela and Hunter of Greensboro, North Carolina; son, Marcin “Martin” Walasek (Meghan Armstrong) and grandson, Maximilian of Ann Arbor, Michigan; brother, Jerzy Walasek and nephew, Maciej Walasek of Warsaw, Poland; and many cherished friends and additional family abroad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bronisław and Kazimiera Walasek; and brother, Wojciech Walasek of Warsaw, Poland.

He arrived in the United States in 1993, working as a Physical Therapist for Heartland Health Care. He was an active member of the Ann Arbor Polonia Association and served as a judge for the Ann Arbor Polish Film Festival on numerous occasions. Włodek enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing music (piano and guitar), and spending time with friends around the dinner table, at the lake, or on one of many memorable vacations.

A memorial gathering will take place at Nie Funeral Home - 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 10:00 - 10:30 am. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 am. The service will be live streamed and a link will be provided HERE. on the day of the service. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor, MI.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Polish Language Center of Ann Arbor to help promote the learning of the Polish language and culture to future generations, including his grandchildren.
