Obituary for Yoshio Sano

Yoshio Sano was born on Bacon Island, California to Suyehichi and Tsute Sano on March 11, 1920. He passed away in the morning on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Betzy's Place Assisted Living Home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Yoshio was able to enjoy his retirement for 43 years after working for 32 years for the City of Detroit's transportation system. In his 102 years he managed to weather various storms - interment in relocation camps, all the changes in the world since the 1920's to the present and the recent and still on going COVID-19 pandemic. Through it all he maintained his good health and positive outlook. A lover of baseball, he has navigated the ups and downs of our beloved Detroit Tigers. A dedicated family man he has always placed the welfare of his family at the top of his priority list. Despite the best efforts of his children to test his faith and his sanity he has achieved his goal of keeping them out of the hands of law enforcement and on the straight and narrow. We will miss him greatly!

Yoshio is survived by his two children, Susan Gordon and her husband, James of Carrollton, Texas, and Randall Sano and his wife, Gem of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his five grandchildren, Stacy Gordon and Michael Gordon of Carrollton, Texas, Kevin Sano of Ann Arbor, Michigan, David Sano of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Danielle Ennover of Elmhurst, New York; his five great grandchildren, Jocelyn Conchas of Carrollton, Texas, Alexis, Lola, and Landry Gordon of Aledo, Texas, and Alicia Walters of Bronx, NewYork; and his sister, Marilyn Holman of Merced, California.

Yoshio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie in 1986.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 4-8pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Yoshio’s honor to the ProMedica Hospice Memorial Fund by mail to 444 N. Summit Street, Toledo, OH 43604 or online HERE.
