We are looking for new team members to assist us working visitations, funerals, and memorial services & gatherings in a part-time, at-need capacity during the day, evenings, and weekends.
Qualified candidates must have strong communication skills and the tact and ability to perform in dynamic and sometimes stressful conditions. Thinking on your feet, multi-tasking, and resilience are necessary. Frequent standing and lifting are also required.
A Funeral Service Associate would help with the following duties:
• Assist grieving families and friends while showing continual care and concern
• Answering phones
• Greeting families and directing visitors
• Hanging visitor’s coats and outerwear
• Preparing chapels for funeral and memorial services as well as attending at those services
o Setting chairs, casket/urn, flowers, memorial table items
o Ensuring restrooms and lounges are stocked and orderly
• Monitoring and distributing memorial stationary
• Receiving, moving, and arranging floral arrangements
• Supporting and assisting directors to ensure the highest quality, professional, and ethical services
o Help closing the casket at the appropriate time
o Help carrying casket/urn during services
o Help ushering as needed
o Carrying flowers to hearse or van for transportation to place of interment or other location
o Assisting at the cemetery or crematory
• Monitoring parking lot activities, setting up processions, and directing traffic in any weather
• General housing keeping throughout hosting times as well as clean-up resetting following services
A Funeral Service Associate must be able to:
• Possess and display empathy, care, and concern in a professional manner
• Possess effective qualities such as: responsibility, dependability, compassion, consideration, friendliness, and positivity.
• Have an adaptive/team player attitude
• Possess basic technological and computer skills including mobile devices and computers
• Ability to learn new skills including using an iPad, wireless microphone, and sound system
• Lift and move furniture, chapel chairs as well as maneuvering and lifting caskets
• Be resourceful and able to multi-task
• Be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Have professional and pleasant phone etiquette
• Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and an insurable driving record
